The Xoloitzcuintli is a hairless canine regarded in ancient prehispanic culture as the guardian of the Mictlan. It has the task of guiding the falling warrior into the realms of the Mictlan (place of the dead) . When the warrior died, in the infinite darkness the dog appeared as light to guide him on the way for the spiritual tests to overcome in order to be in the presence of the gods….'
